Leonarda opens Spiritica’s Crime Collection with an unsettling contrast between domestic familiarity and concealed horror. Inspired by Leonarda Cianciulli, known as the “soapmaker of Correggio,” the fragrance explores a story of superstition and maternal obsession: three women killed in the belief that their sacrifice would protect her children from a foretold death.
Conceived by founder Daniele Muratori Caputo in collaboration with fragrance and criminal psychology enthusiast Ariosto, the composition was brought to life by perfumer Paolo Cerizza. Its unusual accords translate details of this disturbing history into a progression from apparent cleanliness to gourmand warmth and a dark, lingering depth.
Marseille soap gives the opening a distinctly clean character, sharpened by a sparkling peppery accord that recalls caustic soda. Beneath this freshness, dusty sweetness begins to emerge, introducing an unease that deepens as the fragrance unfolds.
The heart draws on the comforting scent of home baking. Fresh Chantilly cream and biscuit accords mingle with raspberry syrup, their richness interrupted by the metallic edge of clotted blood. Sweetness and iron meet in a disconcerting accord, making the familiar feel increasingly strange.
In the base, opulent oud combines with dark chocolate and sulphurous nuances. Dense and forceful, this final movement carries the tension of the composition into a powerful, lasting trail.
Leonarda uses scent as a medium for confronting a troubling narrative. Soap, biscuits and cream acquire unsettling associations, while the contrast between comfort and repulsion runs throughout.
